“You are B-E-A-UTIFUL”
So writes Patrick Doliber in a letter to the unknown recipient of his hair donation.
Eight years after losing his father to cancer, Patrick had the opportunity to pay it forward by donating his locks to Hair Matters for use in a future wig. It took Patrick three years to grow out his hair, and when he recently landed a new job, he decided that the time was right to cut his hair and put it to good use.
But Patrick went beyond making a hair donation. He left a heartfelt and supportive handwritten letter for the lucky recipient of a wig made from his hair. It reads:
Dear HairMatters2ME Recipient,
I can only imagine the challenges, adversity, and pain you have experiences with treating your cancer diagnosis. My father battled cancer, and I have seen the physical, mental, and spiritual effects that cancer and its treatment can take on an individual and their family.
My father showed immense strength through some of the hardest days of his life, and he taught me that no matter what try to be a good person, take care of those you love, and cherish the little things in life.
I hope that you experience positivity, love, laughter, and comfort in your recovery. I hope your new wig brings you confidence when you need a boost, but always remember you are B-E-A-UTIFUL, with or without hair.
You are strong, resilient, and powerful. You will, and potentially already have, kicked cancer’s ass! (sorry for swearing)
Although we’re not likely to ever meet, I will always think of you: the warrior who beat cancer. I hope you wear it proudly.
With love, support, positivity, happiness, and kindness-
Patrick D.
